چکیده

This paper presents COSTA, a Problem Solving Environment for data assimilation and model calibration. Different data assimilation techniques have been developed and implemented over the years. Unfortunately it is very hard to reuse these implementations and quickly try out new methods. COSTA offers a modular framework for data assimilation and model calibration, containing methods and tools that can be easily applied to general applications. Using COSTA, the application of data assimilation methods is simplified so they become available to a larger group of researchers and application areas. The developed parts like models and methods can be reused and interchanged when COSTA is used. While COSTA is being developed, its concepts and implementations are already applied in the software systems WAQUA and TRIWAQ for 2D and 3D shallow water simulation of the Dutch National Institute for Coastal and Marine Management (Rijkswaterstaat/RIKZ). The preliminary results of this application and the collaboration with the DATools project of WL|Delft Hydraulics are also presented in this paper.

The Relationship between Family Environment, Social Skills, and Problem Solving among Female High School Students

Possessing social and problem-solving skills is essential for successful performance in life. The family and educational system can equip students with these vital skills. This study was carried out to determine the relationship between the family environment, social skills, and problem solving among female students. The research method was descriptive-correlational and the statistical populati...

Grid-enabled Ensemble Subsurface Modeling

Ensemble Kalman Filter (EnKF) uses a randomized ensemble of subsurface models for performance estimation. However, the complexity of geological models and the requirement of a large number of simulation runs make routine applications extremely difficult due to expensive computation cost. Grid computing technologies provide a cost-efficient way to combine geographically distributed computing res...

An imperialist competitive algorithm for solving the production scheduling problem in open pit mine

Production scheduling (planning) of an open-pit mine is the procedure during which the rock blocks are assigned to different production periods in a way that the highest net present value of the project achieved subject to operational constraints. The paper introduces a new and computationally less expensive meta-heuristic technique known as imperialist competitive algorithm (ICA) for long-term...
